Inclined Platform Lifts

Inclined Platform Lifts combine the best features of stairlifts and vertical platform lifts to provide transportation for wheelchairs and their users along the incline of an existing staircase.

Inclined platform lifts from 101 Mobility can carry a passenger with wheelchair up and down a single flight of straight stairs by traveling along a rail system mounted alongside the stairs. Suitable for home or commercial applications, they are ideal for applications where an elevator or vertical platform lift cannot be easily accommodated.

  • About Inclined Platform Lifts

Inclined Platform Lifts (IPLs) from 101 Mobility provide seamless transitions up and down staircases in your home, from the comfort and safety of your wheelchair or other lightweight mobility device.

Similar to stairlifts, inclined platform lifts run along the incline of an existing staircase. However, they have the added bonus of a platform which can accommodate most lightweight mobility devices, removing the need for difficult transfers.

  • Rail Types

Regardless of whether your staircase is straight or has turns, curves, and / or landings, we have an inclined platform lift to suit your needs. Inclined platform lifts are available with standard straight rails, or custom-made curved railings. Railings are also available in a variety of lengths to accommodate the full length of your staircase, regardless of how many steps you have.

  • Power Source

IPLs require access to a standard 110v outlet in order to charge the on-board motor. In the event of a power failure, the unit’s battery will continue to power the lift for a period of time, depending on make, model, and age of unit, ensuring that users can reach a safe area.

  • Platform Types

Inclined Platform Lifts for stairs are available with different sized platforms, including ADA Compliance (in the US) sizes, to suit your mobility device. When not in use, the platform can be easily folded against the wall to allow easy access to the stairs when not in use.

Additional Options & Safety Features

  1. Platform Options

Platforms for IPLs may have straight pass-through platforms, or platforms with side exit (90 degree) ramps. A variety of platform sizes are also available, depending on the width of your staircase as well as the size of the wheelchair or other mobility device that will be used with your IPL.

While all IPL platforms can be folded up and out of the way when not in use, some users with physical limitations opt for motorized folding / unfolding platforms to remove the need for bending and lifting.

  2. Seat Options

Many models of IPLs are available with fold-down seats for users without wheelchairs. The seat can be folded up when not in use to allow wheelchair users access to the platform, and can be folded down to accommodate other users. Seats have varying weight capacities, ranging from 300 to 400 pounds.

  3. Safety Options:

    1. The standard backup battery ensures that the unit will continue to run for a period in the event of a power outage.

    2. Onboard emergency stop button provides auto shut-off for users or caregivers.

    3. Optional key-operated controls prevent unauthorized or unsafe use of the unit by children or visitors.

    4. The platform safety apron and upper and lower limit switches prevent the unit from operating if an obstruction is detected on the staircase, and prevents the unit from operating above a safe speed.
