Spring is finally here! No matter where you are, we hope you’re enjoying the gorgeous weather. Make the inside of your home as pretty as the outside with these simple spring cleaning tips!
Create a checklist. Grab a pen and paper and go room to room. Make a list of unorganized cabinets, dusty ceiling fans, and flat pillows. As you go, check off each item and give yourself continual pats on the back for your many accomplishments along the way.
De-clutter—don’t simply shuffle things around. Out with the old and in with the new. Your closet is a great place to start. A great rule of thumb is whether you’ve used/worn the item in the last year. If not, time to donate! Reorganize your closet space by color or occasion (casual vs. fancy) to make sorting through it that much easier!
Find some new stories for a new spring. Once you’re done with your closet, venture over to your book collection with the same mentality. If you’ve read the book and don’t think you’ll read it again (of course your most treasured books are omitted from this tip), donate them to a local bookstore. Find some new books or make a list of some books you’ve been meaning to read.
Make it glisten. Something that we normally don’t think about is the small things, like wiping the filmy dust off of light bulbs. Simply dampen a clean microfiber cloth with warm water, go over the entire bulb, wipe it again with a clean, dry microfiber cloth, and replace (via wikiHow).
If it’s expired, retire it. Check jars, medicine bottles, cans, and boxes. Almost everything has an expiration date. If it’s far outside of that expiration date, then it’s time to send it into retirement. Bring expired medication to your local pharmacist for proper disposal.
Bring backup. Spring cleaning can be a daunting task when tackled alone, especially if you’re planning a large de-clutter this year. There are some awesome moving companies out there that specialized to assist with spring cleaning, such as College Hunks Hauling Junk.
The nose knows. We underestimate the power of our noses and how it could influence our mood. Take some flowers from the garden for a nice sensory touch or choose an air freshener that your nose fancies. Happy smelling!
