Lollapalooza 2014 is only a few weeks away, and this year’s line-up is simply unmissable: Eminem, Lorde, Kings of Leon, and many, many more are set to take the stage at the beginning of August! If you have restricted mobility and are headed to Lolla, check out these resources available through the Lollapalooza Access Program to enjoy all the things that Lollapalooza has to offer!
Getting There and Parking
Downtown Chicago’s Grant Park is the tried and true host of the Lollapalooza music festival. The address is 337 E Randolph St.
Grant Park can be accessed by the main entrance at Michigan and Congress, as well as by the north entrance at Columbus and Monroe. Accessible parking can be found at Millennium Park Garage on Columbus between Monroe & Randolph; the East Monroe Street Underground Garage at Monroe & Columbus; and the Grant Park Underground Garage entrances at Madison & Michigan as well as Michigan & Randolph.
If you need a way to transport your wheelchair, power chair, or scooter in your car on the way to the festival, consider 101 Mobility’s auto lift rental service!
Access Center
Once you’re at Grant Park, stop by the Access Center next to the Buckingham Fountain. There, you can receive wristbands for ADA platforms at events, and staff and volunteers can answer any questions you may have. You can also get information about suggested routes and curb cuts to make getting around the festival easier.
In addition, Green Street, VIP, and all concession stands and merchandise booths are wheelchair accessible.
Restrooms
Accessible toilets can be found throughout Grant Park, and each bank of Lolla restrooms will have ADA portlets on both ends for your convenience!
First Aid
There is a medical tent on the grounds at Lollapalooza that can help address any of your concerns. In addition, medical personnel can be found throughout Grant Park.
Interpreting Services
The Lollapalooza Access Program is providing ASL interpretation for certain musical acts. Pamphlets at the Access Center will provide information about which acts are ASL interpreted.
Wheelchair and Companion Seating
Raised ADA platforms are at the majority of stages. The Access Center can provide information about these platforms, as well as wristbands that allow you and one companion to use the platform. Keep in mind that the platforms are first come, first serve!
Accessible Chicago
Grant Park’s paved pathways are great for wheelchair accessibility, and Chicago itself is also an accessible city. Easy Access Chicago has a ton of information and links about how to take advantage of all the Windy City has to offer! The Chicago Transit Authority has wheelchair-accessible buses, and Open Taxis offers wheelchair-accessible vehicles 24/7.
