5 Secrets to Slow Down the Aging Process

It should come as no surprise to you that humans, since the beginning of time, have always looked for a way to slow down the process of aging. Whether it’s Ponce de Leon’s search for the Fountain of Youth or your mother’s search for the perfect anti-aging cream, our culture has constantly been interested in finding new ways to turn back the clock.

But does slowing down the aging process come from a miracle cure, or is it something more? Experts are finding that by keeping seniors active in daily life they are able to stay physically and mentally younger much longer.

101 Mobility® decided to share 5 secrets that are guaranteed to slow down the aging process for seniors:

1. Getting Enough Social Interaction

Do you enjoy spending time with friends and family? If so, are you making it a frequent occurrence?

Social interaction is key for the health and well-being of seniors. That’s because getting your gab on with others helps combat depression, which helps ward off memory loss, fatigue, and even ineffective autoimmune responses. Be sure to taking part in community events or spend more time with others to reap these age-defying benefits!

2. Finding the Time to Exercise

Sure, everyone knows that exercise is good for them. But unless you find the time to put in the effort, thinking about it won’t do you much good. That’s why it’s time to get moving!

Building up endurance and strength is critical to fighting aging in seniors. It’s always a fun and exciting way to treat arthritis, keep the blood circulated, and keep your body in check. So what are you waiting for?

3. Eating the Right Diet

Eating the foods that our body needs and craves are oftentimes two very different things. We might crave chocolate, but our bodies truly need protein.

Dietitians who deal with senior-related problems say that having a well-balanced diet that’s high in protein is likely the best for beating the aging process. Protein is needed to combat issues such as low immune function and osteoporosis. Just be sure to stick within the 1,600 to 2,200 calories per day for women and 2,000 to 2,800 calories per day for men.

4. Staying Realistic, Always

It turns out that being grounded in reality is the safe, age-defying place to be. Don’t ever feel too confident to ask for help!

For example, if you are finding it difficult to take the stairs due to limited mobility, don’t ignore the warning signs and continue to operate as usual. Do something about it. Install a ramp or stair lift at your location to help you move about easier. There’s no shame in staying realistic, and the truth is you’ll live much longer and healthier in the long run.

5. Playing a Role in Society

What do you wake up for in the morning? What is your sense of purpose?

Studies have found that seniors who play a role in their society, whether it’s helping out at a community event or a local church, tend to stay younger longer. That’s because getting involved leads to a greater sense of purpose, which is critical to not feeling “out of touch” with the world.
